Virtually Sustainable House Day 2020

Sustainable House Day was reinvented due to COVID-19. Homeowners were unable to invite people into their homes and Renew had to decide whether to cancel, like so many events did, or use this as an opportunity to recreate SHD and go online.

The decision was made that this event is too important to cancel and we are really glad they went ahead.

Renew asked homeowners to create house profiles as per previous years, however they also created short videos of their homes, explaining sustainable features and experiences. This enabled homeowners to reach a wider audience, location was no longer an issue and visitors could visit houses from all over Australia.

Solar Dwellings had 16 homes open this year, you can visit them here along with all the other WA homes.

Due to WA allowing in person events we were able to organise our ‘Meet a Homeowner’ event at Home Base in Subiaco, we had four homeowners present short presentations about their homes with a Q&A afterwards. We also had other homeowners there talking about their homes & experiences to visitors. To round out the event we had talks by Chris from Australian Electric Vehicle Association, Craig from CleanNRG and Dr Ross Mars from Water installations.
